Why Cherine?
I grew up in an HDB flat. Like most Singapore families, property wasn’t something we talked about as wealth — it was simply where we called home.
Dad was trying to make ends meet and mum was too ill, as young children (5 of us) took turns to care for her, cook and do house chores. I grew up fast out of necessity. It wasn’t until I started my career in real estate that I truly understood what that humble flat represented — decades of hard work, quietly accumulating value, waiting to be unlocked.
That realisation changed everything for me.
I bought my first matrimonial property at age 23, a resale 3-room HDB flat while waiting to collect keys to my “dream home” an Executive Apartment (EA). This was the typical upgrade way that most Singaporeans do in the nineties.
After staying in my EA for 23 years, I finally took the courage to upgrade to a private condo — carefully, nervously, with more questions than answers. Life didn’t go the way I planned. I stayed in that home long after it stopped feeling like one — until I was finally ready to build something that felt like me again. I’ve sat with the same uncertainty my clients feel. I’ve done the CPF calculations at midnight over and over again. I’ve weighed the risk of selling before buying. I’ve felt the weight of making a decision that affects my family’s future — would we end up with no roof over our heads for me and my 2 sons.
That’s exactly why I do what I do today.
